Patrick Heeger is a patent attorney trainee at Maiwald. His activities are mainly focused on the protection of intellectual property in the fields of medical technology, biotechnology, and mechanical and plant engineering. He has particular expertise in the fields of biophotonics, optogenetics and laser medicine.

During his doctoral studies at Leibniz Universität Hannover and the Lower Saxony Centre for Biomedical Engineering, Implant Research and Development, he created a test system for a light-based cochlear implant consisting of a network of neurons from different physiological units, thereby establishing the basis for an optogenetic biohybrid cochlear implant.
