Maiwald, one of Germany’s leading law firms specializing in patent law, has appointed Anja Friedrich as Counsel with effect from July 1, 2020.
After completing training as a state-certified chemical-technical assistant and a stint at the German Research Institute for Food Chemistry (now Leibniz Institute for Food Systems Biology at the Technical University of Munich), Anja Friedrich studied chemistry at the Technical University of Munich. There she earned her doctorate in the area of organometallic chemistry. She decided to pursue a career in intellectual property law, commencing her patent attorney traineeship with Maiwald in 2011. Since her admission as a German and later European patent attorney, she has been working in Maiwald’s life sciences department, where she advises German and international clients on all aspects of IP law, including patent prosecution, opposition proceedings and patent litigation. She also prepares freedom-to-operate opinions and advises on validity issues. Pharmaceutical companies in particular benefit from her specialist knowledge in the field of drug delivery.
