At the beginning of the New Year, two long-serving patent attorneys at Maiwald Dr Andrea Lasar and Dr Stefanie Parchmann, were appointed partners in the firm.

Dr Andrea Lasar advises clients in the fields of biochemistry, biotechnology and pharmacy. She specializes in patent prosecution and oppositions as well as in the preparation of freedom-to-operate opinions. After graduating in biology from the Julius Maximilian University in Würzburg, Andrea completed her doctorate in 2003 at the University of Ulm in the fields of immunology and cell biology. She joined Maiwald as a trainee patent attorney in the same year, completing her training in 2006. Andrea Lasar is a German and European patent attorney and is qualified to represent clients before the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
Dr Stefanie Parchmann advises clients in the areas of pharmacy, chemistry, biotechnology and biochemistry. As well as patent prosecution and oppositions, she specializes in the preparation of validity opinions and management of international patent families. She was a member of the Maiwald team involved in the G1/16 case heard before the Enlarged Board of Appeal of the European Patent Office in 2017. After graduating in chemistry and biochemistry from the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and later obtaining her doctoral degree at the same university in the field of biochemical defense mechanisms of plants, she worked for several years at Bayer AG. She received her training in intellectual property law with the firm von Kreisler Selting Werner in Cologne, completing it in 2007. She subsequently joined the Maiwald office in Munich. Stefanie is also a German and European patent attorney and is qualified to represent clients before the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
