Patent Engineer

Dr. Vanessa Erdmann

Patent Engineer

M.Sc. Biology

Vanessa Erdmann is presently a patent engineer at Maiwald. Her work is concerned with intellectual property protection in the fields of biotechnology, biochemistry and chemistry.

In the course of her doctoral studies, she developed synthetic cascade reactions to produce chiral fine chemicals (e.g. amino alcohols and tetrahydroisoquinolines). For this purpose, she used bacterial enzymes, whole bacterial cells and chemical synthesis steps which she then combined into multi-step systems. The instrumental analysis of the intermediate and end products formed a major part of her work.

To chemically synthesise the products, she worked for two months in 2013 as a visiting scientist at the Institute for Organic Chemistry at the University of Graz, Austria.

She has presented her research results at international conferences in the USA and Austria and has had her work published in relevant journals.
